The Doom-Scroll Stopper – Mastering the First 3 Seconds
In the digital world, you aren’t just competing with your rivals; you’re competing with a thumb. According to Facebook’s research, users spend an average of 1.7 seconds on a piece of mobile content before moving on. At VCC Studio, we call this the “Three-Second Rule.”
How to Earn the View
- The Visual Hook: Start with action or a high-contrast visual. Avoid the slow “fade from black” or long logos at the start.
- The “What’s In It For Me?” (WIIFM): Address the viewer’s pain point or curiosity immediately.
- Motion over Stasis: Even a subtle camera zoom or a text pop-up can signal to the brain that something important is happening.
The VCC Takeaway: Don’t save your best shot for the end. If the first three seconds don’t land, the rest of the video might as well not exist.
